Introduction
The goal of this project is to create a system to aid a vehicle in autonomous
navigation using a Beagleboard-XM. The Beagleboard-XM embedded system is a
powerful, highly optimized and versatile device with an Advanced Reduced instruction
set computer (RISC) Machine (ARM) processor and a Texas Instruments TMS320
digital signal processor (DSP). With the use of digital signal processing techniques and
embedded technology; a leaner and more current system of navigation will be created.

Environment : The vehicle inhabits the obstacle filled environment.
Ultrasonic Transducer/Sensor Array : Mounted in an array; the transducers are
excitation used to sent excitation to the world and interpret the returning signals into a
digital format.
Embedded Buffer : The embedded buffer will store all data received by the ultrasonic
receiver arrays and will be shared by both processors on the Beagleboard-XM.
Pioneer 3 : The platform that will house all other components. The wheels and mounting
point for the sensor arrays.
Beagleboard-XM : Embedded system that contains both the ARM and DSP processor
and controls peripherals.
Remote User : The remote user can receive diagnostic, position and situational
information via a wireless connection. Additionally, the wireless communication can be
used to take manual control of the vehicle.
