System Requirements
• The system will transmit and receive at least 2 ultrasonic signals to sense
obstacles in the environment.
BeagleBoard-XM
• The BB-XM will use embedded ARM processor to manage all peripherals.
• The BB-XM will use embedded DSP processor and shared memory to update a
map at least every 3 seconds.
• The BB-XM will send command signals to the pioneer-3 via serial
communication
• The BB-XM will manage wireless Belkin adapter and report progress to remote
user.
Transmitting
• The transmitting array will agitate the environment at a frequency of 40kHz ±
1.0kHz.
• The transmitting array will transmit from at least 3 sources.
• The transmitting array will be able to steer a minimum ± 60 degrees to the
perpendicular by using digital signal processing techniques
Receiving
• There will be an equal amount of receivers as there are transmitters.
• The receiving array shall be able to receive multiple echoes at each component.
• The receiver array shall pass each sample to an A/D converter.
A/D
• The A/D will sample the incoming signal at a minimum sampling rate of 84 kilo-
samples a second.
• The A/D will have a minimum resolution of 4 bits.
Multiplexing
• The multiplexer will switch at a minimum frequency of 2 MHz.
• The multiplexer will not be any slower than (42*N) Hz; where N is the number of
receivers.
• The multiplexer will communicate all data to the Beagleboard-XM through a
serial data stream.
Belkin Wireless G USB Adapter
• Will communicate with remote user at least every 2 seconds.
